The INFORM partners gathered at CNR, Rome for the INFORM Progress Meeting 04 (PM04) to present progress of the third year and to discuss INFORM activities planned in 2017 like the demonstration activities and the INFORM Results Uptake Workshop to be held in autumn-winter 2017.
INFORM partners attended the 1st Sentinel-2 Validation Team (S2VT) Meeting held on 28-29 November 2016 at ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy. VITO gave an oral presentation entitled 'Validation of OPERA atmospheric correction for Sentinel-2'. The presentation can be downloaded from http://esaconferencebureau.com/docs/default-source/16c20-docs/d2_10-50_d....
VITO, PML, RBINS, KU and CNR presented several posters on validation activities for atmospheric correction and water quality products performed within the INFORM project.
The Sentinel-2 satellite nicely captured Markermeer and Ijsselmeer in the Netherlands on 8 September 2016 (left) with a zoom in on the 'Nature Islands' of Marker Wadden in Markermeer (right) which are now 'opened' officially.
In the INFORM project the Sentinel-2 MSI images are used to map the water quality of Markermeer. Field campaigns were organized in the beginning of September by VITO, Deltares, the University of Stirling and Rijkswaterstaat to validate the water quality maps.
Source NOS: Saturday 24 September the artificial islands Marker Wadden were ‘opened’ officially by Dutch State Secretary Van Dam who visited the first island. In 2020 an archipel of 5 islands should be ready. During the last 20 years the birds and fish population of Markermeer has descreased drastically. The goal of the Marker Wadden project is to increase the birds and fish population in Markermeer. INFORM teams from CNR, BLI, VITO, Deltares and U STRLING completed in-situ campaigns concurrent with Sentinel-2 and/or Sentinel-3 acquisitions at the Danube Delta, Mantua Lakes, Lake Garda, Lake Balaton, Curonion Lagoon, Loch Lomond and Markermeer. At Curonian Lagoon also APEX (airborne hyperspectral) images were acquired.
The Space Data unit of DG GROW is gathering user requirements for the Next Generation Copernicus Space Component and has launched a survey aimed, at gathering User long-term needs in terms of satellite Earth Observation/ Copernicus data and information services:
Meet us at the European Space Solutions at stand n°15 of the village "Earth Obsevation". More info at http://www.european-space-solutions.eu/.
Els Knaeps (VITO) presented on Monday 9 May results of the OPERA atmospheric correction for land and water and turbidity products based on a wavelenght switching approach in the presentation entitled 'Sentinel Turbidity Products to Support Environmental Management and Dredging Projects'.
The INFORM partners, EU project officer, reviewer, scientific advisory board members and end-user advisory board members attended the INFORM Progress Meeting 03, Steering Advisory Board Meeting 02, End-User Advisory Board Meeting 02 and Review Meeting 02 from 15 March 2016 - 18 March 2016 at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) Museum in Brussels. During that week, INFORM progress was presented and future directions were discussed.
Sentinel-3A was launched on 16 February 2016. More info at http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Observing_the_Earth/Copernicus/Sentine... and http://livestream.com/ESA/Sentinel3A.
The INFORM Progress Meeting 03, Steering Advisory Board Meeting 02, End-User Advisory Board Meeting 02 and Review Meeting 02 will be held from 15 March 2016 - 18 March 2016 at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) Museum in Brussels.
APEX images were acquired succesfully over the whole Lake Biel and the central part of Lake Geneva on Friday 10th July, with eastern and western parts of Lake Geneva flown on Saturday 11th July. The ground team, under the leadership of U STIRLING, was able to sample 6 stations with full radiometry, optics and sampling on Lake Biel on Thursday 9th July (<24 h from the APEX flights) and a further 9 stations concurrent to the APEX flights over Lake Geneva on Friday 10th July. In addition, ship-of-opportunity validation measurements (radiometry and AOT) were undertaken on Saturday 11th July over a transect stretching from Lausanne to near the inflow of the Rhone from two passenger ferries. In total IOP and radiometry data was collected from 29 stations over the two lakes. We acknowledge EUFAR (http://www.eufar.net) for funding the APEX campaign.
More information can be found here at the ESA website.
The INFORM coordinator VITO participated in the 9th GEO European Projects Workshop, 15-16 June 2015, Copenhagen, Denmark, with a poster presentation on the INFORM project including recent results on the OPERA atmospheric correction for land and water developed by VITO and macrophytes monitoring at Mantua lakes in Italy by CNR.
INFORM partners VITO and RBINS participated in the Sentinel-3 for Science Workshop, 2-5 June 2015, Venice, Italy, with an oral presentation on the OPERA atmospheric correction for land and water and a poster presentation on the use of Sentinel-2 and Landsat-8 bands for the determination of euphotic depth in Lake Balaton, respectively.
VITO gave a presentation entitled 'The Potential of Imaging Spectroscopy Missions for Inland Water Quality Monitoring' at the 36th International Symposium on Remote Sensing of Environment, 11-15 May 2015, Berlin.
participated at the GEO Water Quality Summit, 20-22 April 2015, WMO, Geneva, Switzerland to define the requirements of the water quality system components and develop a plan to implement an integrated end-to-end water quality monitoring and forecasting service. The summit was attended by about 50 water quality RS experts from Australia, US, Africa, Europe, Japan, … and representatives from UNEP, US EPA, WHO, WMO, NASA, GEO, RAMSAR and JRC.
